NJ UNDEFEATED HUN RAIDERS ‘23 DE/TE DANTE BARONE DOMINATES JUNIOR SEASON

Manalapan, NJ: When you play with a successful team, surrounded by winners and Division 1 talent, the only thing that you can do is get better.

For the Hun School’s dominant 6’ 3 1/2”, 255-pound junior defensive end/tight end Dante Barone, that is exactly what happened in his year on campus.

Barone, who has a brother Francesco that has already signed to play at the University of Pennsylvania next season, was a pivotal part of the return to dominance for the Raiders. After a tough COVID-19 season in 2020, Hun went 9-0 in 2021, winning the MAPL and Northeast Prep League titles. But it was the manner of the wins that most impressed coaches, fans, and journalists: the Raiders outscored their nine opponents 380-63, with three shutouts and seven games holding teams to a touchdown or less.

Barone racked up the stats on both sides of the ball and stood out amongst so many teammates that have already, or will be, signing to play at the Division 1 level. The junior showed his versatility on offense, catching passes from the tight end spot (18 catches for 213 yards and two TDs) and running the ball out of the backfield (nine carries for 142–15.8 yards per carry–with a long of 50 yards).

He was at his best on the defensive line though: Barone had 37 tackles, was second on the team in sacks, and had one Pick 6 interception.

One journalist said this of Barone:

“He is so quick. He gets past the O-line players on the edge and was in the backfield on almost every play I saw him in one game this year. I know he played basketball as well, which I’m sure helped his athleticism. He was very tough to stop.

“And I know he is a rocket scientist: he is very smart. The coaches I talked to said he picks up everything so quickly."

Barone has a 4.35 GPA and got a 1390 on his SAT on the first try, and has received offers from Syracuse, Kent St., West Point, and Delaware St. as of now, with several Power 5 and Ivies all interested. That number is expected to grow very quickly in the coming months.
