Devon Prep Rising Junior Nick Ciocca Commits to The University of Notre Dame
Berwyn, PA: Nick Ciocca had his big dreams fulfilled this summer when he announced his commitment to play for Coach John Handrigan and the University of Notre Dame’s Mens golf program in the fall of 2024.
Ciocca’s journey hasn’t just begun this summer either. August of 2021, he captured his first AJGA victory at the AJGA Imperial Junior Classic. Nick posted a first round 67 and followed it up with rounds of 69 and 70 to shoot 7-under par for the event! Nick followed that up with a Top-5 finish in the AJGA UHY at Baltimore the week after and currently ranks 144th in the Rolex National Rankings and 3rd in Pennsylvania!
Ciocca has also pulled off an incredible feat winning the Philadelphia Section Junior PGA Championship back to back years, qualifying for the Boys Junior PGA Championship. Last year in 2021, he shot 3-under par 67 to win outright by 4 shots!
Nick’s road to defending his title in 2022 wasn’t quite that easy. Nick was 7-over par through his first nine holes and was well out of the lead going into the back nine. Nick proceeded to card 5 birdies on the back nine to shoot 75 the first round, then made 7 more birdies against one bogey in his second round to shoot a 65!!
Ciocca finished at 2-under par for the tournament and held off Liberty Commit Josh Ryan in a playoff to take the title. Nick’s grit and determination to come from behind was an aspect that really impressed college coaches.
Nick also added to his impressive 2022 campaign with a T2 finish out of 148 competitors at the Pennsylvania Junior Boys Championship where he shot 69-70 to finish 3-under par total. Ciocca also qualified for the 2022 United States Junior Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes with a round of 70!
Off the course, Ciocca is a star in the classroom as well, with a 3.75 GPA at one of the best schools in the country.
Here is a scouting report on the rising Junior:
“He absolutely annihilates the ball off the tee. Ciocca has a swing speed of 118 mph as a sophomore in high school. But he can also get up and down well, too, which is such an important part of the game. Nick’s precision and touch around the greens combined with his power makes for a very bright future. He is a special player.”
