Canal Winchester, OH: Wide receiver Landon Sterling grew into the 2021 football campaign.

Literally.

The class of 2023 player, who spent his time playing both sides of the ball in a show of his dominant athleticism, shot up in height over the course of the year. Sterling now stands at 6'2", the optimal size for a wide out at the college level.

With that height increase, Sterling also kept his speed (4.64 40 time), strength (305 squat), and explosiveness (9-1 broad jump), all of which should continue to improve over the coming months. Sterling has also posted a 21-1 long jump during his sophomore season with the Canal Winchester track and field team, which shows just how athletic he is, and is one of the top triple jumpers in the state as well heading into his junior campaign.

Sterling has a 3.3 GPA and is known as one of the better students in the program. He is also part of a winning tradition at Canal Winchester: the Indians dealt with early season adversity well to go 7-5 in 2021 and make the playoffs for a third-straight campaign.

Sterling’s coaches have been effusive in their praise of the player, giving this scouting report:

“Tall, strong and aggressive: Sterling has what it takes to play wideout at the next level. Sterling runs a 4.6s 40 and maintains a 3.3 GPA. His patterns are precise, and his hands are excellent.

“Landon has a special ‘second gear’ with the ball in his hands and is a flat-out playmaker. He has the ability to go up and get the ball in traffic and is a legit deep threat. Sterling also runs the slant pattern very well and can be used in short yardage situations as a possession receiver, due to his height and great frame.”

Sterling put on a good show at the TYGTAL Next Level Classic in Alpharetta, Georgia during the three-day showcase, and has now started to rocket up the recruiting boards. This came after he dominated the field at the Otterbein University camp after his sophomore campaign.

Big things are on the horizon for this talented junior, in the off-season, and during what should be a huge senior season on the field. Maybe Sterling will even head into that 2022 Canal Winchester campaign as a state champion long jumper.
