‘24 Manalapan NJ D/LSM Jake Horowitz Is Another Key Cog in Braves’ Lacrosse Build

Manalapan, NJ: In the COVID-19 shortened 2021 New Jersey boys' lacrosse season, there was a new face in the crowd: the Manalapan Braves.

Manalapan went 7-8 in 2021 with a roster full of underclassmen: there were 19 freshmen and sophomores alone on that first roster.

Class of 2024 Defenseman/long stick mid Jake Horowitz was one of the players that was there from the beginning, and hopes that by the time he is done, the Braves will be a force in the Garden State. Jake started in every game last year as a freshman and will look to keep that starting spot this year as a sophomore. Jake is also a starting Defenseman for the Club 91 South NJ Team, where he made the Regional Fall Select Team.

At just 16-years-old, Horowitz already looks the part: he is 6-1, 170 pounds, and still growing into his frame. He is a football player as well, with his off-season time spent in the weight room and speed training. His long frame and quick feet are major physical attributes that provide a ton of potential for wreaking havoc on the defensive side of the ball. His experience as a multi-sport athlete in football and basketball has also enabled him to have a keen sense of spatial awareness, off ball positioning, and anticipating necessary rotations.

If you are looking for an unselfish person that also excels in the classroom, Horowitz is your guy. He has a 4.27 GPA and has won multiple awards for his community service. Horowitz won the Braves Community Service Award for most volunteer hours in 2021-22 and has raised over $75,000 in the last seven years, earning the Thea’s Star of Hope fundraising champion title to help fight pediatric brain cancer.

Here is a scouting report on Horowitz:

“First off, he has the size already. I saw him a couple times last year and he is going to be a breakout player in 2022. He is very quick and can use his size very well. This team is going to get good, and Horowitz could be at the center of it for years to come.”

Horowitz has already excelled at some of the region’s best camps and is only going to get better in the coming seasons. This 2022 campaign could see him breakout and jump onto the radar of multiple schools. With interest from almost a dozen schools already, including the Ivies, many are excited to see what Horowitz can do in 2022.
