COACH NOTES
Nick Vecchiarelli was “Mr Everything” for the Howell Rebels, of the tough Shore Conference of NJ. When you watch film on Nick the immediate impression is an extreme amount of versatility. He earned a spot on the All Division Team as a TE but probably could have made it as a receiver, safety or linebacker as well. Vecchiarelli stands at 6’0” tall and already weighs 193.5 lbs. Nick’s wingspan reaches 74’ and has a frame that will allow him to get up to the 220lb level by the time he reaches college ball in the fall of 2022.
Nick (as a junior) had outstanding catches over the middle as a slot receiver in traffic, stretched the field for multiple long yardage TDs of over 40 plus yards as a wide out and then displayed the interior and exterior blocking of a tight end. On defense, Vecchiarelli was able to play in the box and stop the run but then displayed the ability to cover the deep ball with massive success against wide receivers. One of the biggest indicators of this was an interception against Manalapan, on a 30 yard pass, down at his own 2 yard line. This pick sealed the victory for his team that was up just 6 points with 30 seconds remaining.
On a side note, Nick shows the ability to tackle with precision in the open field and is able to not only be a sound tackler but at the same time delivers the blow. For some players this would be the focus of his recruitment strengths but Vecchiarelli does so many things well we had to find space just to add this in.
